"Earley has that magical thing called stage presence, and at times, it was enough to see him caressing his shaving blade to get a feel for Todd’s unhinged, revenge-possessed mind."

Mr. Gumm (Judy Garlands Father)
Broadway World: Mr. Earley, in particular boasts a powerful voice of his own, and shows it off during a series of numbers that illustrate well Mr. Gumm's love for his daughter, yet conflicted love life.
CTNOW: "Much of the first act concerns the starlet's father Frank Gumm, who's fighting his own battles for identity and self-worth. Kevin Earley hides a booming voice within an understated, vulnerable, slumped body. Earley's Frank is defined by his cheap suit, the loving smiles he bestows on his youngest daughter and the sensitive tone he brings to stirring numbers such as "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows" and "You Made Me Love You." "
The Day: As Judy’s father, Kevin Earley makes the most of his multifaceted role. Frank Gumm is a dreamer, perpetually getting his family into dire straits. Earley’s Frank charms Judy (and the audience) with his gentle humor and playfulness. But Earley gets under Frank’s skin, too, finding the character’s inner turmoil, which I won’t reveal any more about here. His performance of the song “I’m Always Chasing Rainbows” is downright gut-wrenching.
The Westfield News: "Kevin Earley as Garland’s father, a troubled man who turns the song “Chasing Rainbows” into one of the show’s several tour de force moments."
